Global Bioeconomy Summit 2015

The 1st Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) was held in Berlin on 25-26 November 2015, organized by the German Bioeconomy Council. More than 850 participants from 82 countries met with the objective to set goals for increasing the involvement of the bioeconomy in sustainable development and the battle against climate change. The final communiqué of the Global Bioeconomy Summit sets out five priorities for the global political agenda: 1) to use renewable resources, ensure food security and protect the ecosystem, 2) the bioeconomy's contributions towards the Sustainable Development Goals should be rendered measurable, 3) economic and scientific collaboration should be promoted, 4) education, joint learning and dialogue should be increased, and 5) the bioeconomy as a whole should be part of the global climate negotiations, the Sustainable Development Goals and trade.
The Nordic Council of Ministers engaged at the Summit by sharing experiences on international cooperation and trade in the Arctic, Nordic and Baltic Sea macro-regions. It was agreed that these experiences and their implications are very productive for accelerating further international cooperation to realize the economy, also in Europe and globally. Senior Advisor at the Nordic Council of Ministers, Geir Oddsson, was elected member of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) established in connection to the Summit. The IAC will develop its activities based on outcomes of the Summit and will support the preparation of the next Global Bioeconomy Summit to take place in 2017
